Chinese Community Wellbeing Society (CCWS) was originally set up as the Bristol Chinese Women’s Group (BCWG) in 1989, and with the additional funding from Avon County Council, it was then changed to Bristol & Avon Chinese Women’s Group (BACWG) in 1992, to support Chinese women who had nowhere else to turn to, over time this expanded to include other members of the family and individuals living alone.

In 2017 the organisation made steps towards changing its name to better reflect the community and area that it served, having outgrown its name many years before. The membership of BACWG selected the name Chinese Community Wellbeing Society and we began the process of changing over to this name when the global pandemic hit, so the new name was not formally adopted until September 2021.

Our purpose is to promote the wellbeing of all those of Chinese origin, supporting their integration and inclusion in local communities across the Southwest of England.  It is a voice for the Chinese community, raising awareness of its needs amongst other organisations in the region. We achieve this through our aims:

To relieve sickness, hardship and distress by providing assistance, advice, representation and services amongst the Chinese community.

To provide or assist in the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation for the Chinese community who have need of such facilities with a view to improving their conditions of life and integration into their local community.

The advancement of education between the Chinese community and the local community through educational, cultural and social activities.
