Stay strong this autumn: get vaccinated

Did you know you can reduce your chances of being hospitalised with flu by nearly half just by getting vaccinated this autumn? …click here to read more

Over the last few years, flu vaccines have kept tens of thousands of people out of hospital and helped to save countless lives.

The vaccine is now available to those with long term health conditions along with carers in receipt of carer’s allowance and many close contacts of individuals with ongoing health problems.

So getting vaccinated ahead of winter is among the most important things you can do to keep yourself and others around you safe and ‘winter strong’.

Getting the vaccine now is important because even if you have had a vaccine or been ill with flu before, immunity fades over time and flu viruses change each year.

If you are vaccinated and catch flu this winter, you are likely to have milder symptoms and recover faster.

You may have already been invited for a flu vaccine by your GP surgery. If not, there are lots of free and easy ways to get protected locally.

These include many pharmacies, GP surgeries, and walk-in centres across Bristol where booking ahead is not always needed.

Walk-in centres are available at Easton, St Werburghs, Fishponds, Broadmead, Avonmouth, Shirehampton, and St Georges.

About Us

Our History

Chinese Community Wellbeing Society (CCWS) was originally set up as the Bristol Chinese Women’s Group (BCWG) in 1989, and with the additional funding from Avon County Council, it was then changed to Bristol and Avon Chinese Women’s Group (BACWG) in 1992, to support Chinese women who had nowhere else to turn to, over time this expanded to include other members of the family and individuals living alone.

In 2017 the organisation made steps towards changing its name to better reflect the community and area that it served, having outgrown its name many years before. The membership of BACWG selected the name Chinese Community Wellbeing Society and we began the process of changing over to this name when the global pandemic hit, so the new name was not formally adopted until September 2021.

Our Purpose

To support the health and wellbeing of the Chinese speaking community in Bristol and across the south west of England, and their integration and inclusion in local communities. It is a voice for the community, raising awareness of its needs amongst other organisations in the region.

Our Aims

To relieve sickness, hardship and distress by providing assistance, advice, representation and services amongst the Chinese community.

To provide or assist in the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation for the Chinese community who have need of such facilities with a view to improving their conditions of life and integration into their local community.

The advancement of education between the Chinese community and the local community through educational, cultural and social activities.
